Onboarding checklist

The guided Get started checklist tracks your setup progress in real time and shows what each step unlocks.

The Get started page is a guided checklist that walks you through everything you need to send your first messages. It lives on the onboarding route and tracks your setup progress in real time, ticking off each item as you complete it.

What each step unlocks

Create a channel

A channel is what enables sending. Until you have at least one configured, there's nowhere for your messages to go.

Add or import contacts

Your contacts are your audience — the people your campaigns reach. Load them in bulk with a CSV import, add them manually, or create them through the API.

Set your brand context

Your brand context — voice, audience, and real product links and offers — is injected into every AI generation so campaign, message, and autopilot copy stays on-brand and grounded in real URLs and promo codes. It's optional, but setting it early makes everything the AI writes for you sharper.

Create a template

A template is the message content a campaign sends, complete with {{ first_name }} merge fields for personalization. Store-intent workspaces skip this: Autopilot or the Cart recovery blueprint already carry the message.

Build and launch a campaign

A campaign ties it all together: it enrolls contacts and delivers your template through your channel. Launching one is what actually gets messages out the door. If you signed up with a Shopify or WooCommerce store, this step is Activate Autopilot or clone Cart recovery instead of a blank canvas.

Commerce path (Shopify / WooCommerce)

Choosing I have a Shopify or WooCommerce store (ecom / DTC) on workspace create — or connecting Shopify/Woo mid-setup — replaces the template + blank campaign steps with: connect the storefront, confirm brand, activate Autopilot or clone Cart recovery from the gallery, then send a test checkout.started event. After a Cart recovery clone, bind an email channel on the draft. SMS is optional and does not send without an SMS channel and contact consent; email-only workspaces should delete that step. Email verification and at least one sending channel stay required. SaaS and apps should pick SaaS, app, or something else.

Top up billing credits

EngageApp is prepaid. Adding credits to your wallet ensures your sends go through rather than being held for lack of balance.

Work through every step

We recommend completing all the steps in order. Each one builds on the last, and finishing the full checklist means your workspace is fully configured and ready to run campaigns end to end.
