Draft abandoned-cart emails from Claude or Cursor with the EngageApp MCP server
Setting up lifecycle messaging usually means clicking through brand settings, templates, segments and flows. With the EngageApp MCP server, you can ask an agent in Claude Code or Cursor to do that work from plain words, and you stay in control of anything that reaches customers.
This post walks through drafting abandoned-cart emails with an agent. Your store must already send a cart event to EngageApp, because the campaign is triggered by it.
What the MCP server does
- Two URLs: a workspace URL that only accepts keys from that workspace, and a central URL where the key decides the workspace. Both show the same tools for the same key.
- Agent keys: you create an
act_key in Settings > Agent access. EngageApp stores only a hash of the key. - Scopes:
read, configure, write:draftandwrite:live. An agent only sees the tools its key's scopes allow. - Tools: 72 tools covering brand, settings, variables, templates, segments, campaigns, AI campaign drafts, Autopilot and approvals.
- Guided prompts:
configure_brandandsetup_autopilotwalk an agent through setup step by step.
Available on every workspace, including free. No extra fee for MCP; sends use credits as usual.
What agents cannot do
Agents cannot see or change secrets, channel credentials, API keys, billing, team members or approval rules. Agents also cannot mark campaigns critical or send tests.
Publishing a campaign, enrolling a segment, and switching Autopilot to auto_execute return pending_approval. An owner or admin approves them in Settings > Agent access, and requests expire after 72 hours. Autopilot can run in review_required mode, so a person approves each campaign.
Walkthrough: abandoned-cart emails
Setup takes a few steps: create a key, connect your client, and run workspace_whoami.
- Create a key in Settings > Agent access with the scopes you want the agent to have. For drafting,
read, configureandwrite:draftare enough. - Connect your client. Copy the Claude Code command or the Cursor JSON config from the MCP server reference.
- Check the connection. Ask the agent which workspace it is connected to. It calls
workspace_whoami. - Set up your brand with the
configure_brandprompt, so drafts match your brand. - Set up Autopilot with the
setup_autopilotprompt and pick the ecommerce template. - Draft the campaign. Ask something like "Draft an abandoned-cart email sequence for shoppers who leave items in their cart." The agent uses the AI campaign generator and shows you the draft to refine.
- Review and publish. When you are happy, the agent can ask to publish. An owner or admin approves it before anything is sent.
The step-by-step MCP guide covers each of these with example requests.
What it costs
Pay per send with credits and no monthly fee. No extra fee for MCP. AI drafting tools are rate limited daily, not charged. See pricing for credit costs per channel.
